Robyn Tomlin to lead Fireside chat with Arlan Hamilton at Innovate Raleigh Summit
Innovate Raleigh is thrilled to announce that Robyn Tomlin will host a keynote conversation with Arlan Hamilton at the 2018 Innovate Raleigh Summit. A recent piece in the Washington Post piece captures her journey in becoming the recently named executive editor of The News & Observer and The Herald-Sun and the Carolinas regional editor for McClatchy. She now leads news and content strategy for seven local news operations in North and South Carolina.
Before joining McClatchy in February 2018, she was vice president and managing editor at The Dallas Morning News. Prior to that, she served as the chief digital officer and vice president of communications at the Pew Research Center, a Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan think tank. Robyn also served as the founding editor of Digital First Media’s Project Thunderdome in New York City. Robyn spent a decade with the New York Times Regional Media Group, serving as the company’s director of editorial innovation and as the top editor of three dailies: the StarNews in Wilmington, N.C., the Ocala (Fla.) Star-Banner and the TimesDaily in Florence, Alabama.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Robyn started her career as a reporter in suburban Pittsburgh and later in Asheville. Robyn has taught digital journalism at Georgetown University and presented at conferences across the U.S. and in Europe. She currently sits on the boards of directors for the American Society of News Editors, the National Press Foundation and the N.C. Open Government Coalition.
Robyn grew up in Chapel Hill and is married to Kevin Carter. They have two grown sons and a rambunctious dog named Boo Radley.
